Inverter and Converter. These technical terms are often subject in confusion when it comes to using the word itself. Most of our online buyers like housewives and non-technical people always gets confused of these two similar words. A lot of people also need to understand that perhaps they may be the same in meaning but when applied in a certain circumstances may have different meanings. One word has the specific meaning while the other isn’t.

Most of the time, these two words can be seen in different article pages and websites relating to power inverters and other electronic power supplies. These particular words are also frequently being discussed and talked-about in many forums, blogs and classified ads sites.

The question in this matter is, do you know what’s the difference of both words? Using the word may or may not break your reputation in or outside the online community. People often used words they didn’t even know what it means or possibly meant when applied in a certain phrase or sentence. These are just simple things you might have done for some time now, but knowing the word itself and how to use them have its positive feedbacks.

The use of the word “Converter”, which is often used as, describing several unrelated pieces of equipments or  performing different functions has added to this already confusing matter. A Converter has a lot of meaning but often times you can really understand what it really meant. For example in electronics, a voltage converter is a device which converts AC Power to DC Power. It changes the voltage of an electrical power source and is usually combined with other components to create a power supply. Some claims also proves that it is also possible to do a AC-DC-AC conversion. The use of the term voltage converter is also known in other electrical term which is power supply. A voltage converter and power supply can also be called as transformer. However, it does not actually pertain to the device called transformer which also has a different meaning.

The word “Inverter” in electrical terminology, according to the online encyclopedia: Wikipedia, is defined as an electrical device that converts direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC); the converted AC can be at any required voltage and frequency with the use of appropriate transformers, switching, and control circuits. Another meaning that revolves around this word according to the IEEE definition is, a machine, device, or system that changes direct-current power to alternating-current power. The inverter is the output stage of the power supply, to which the machine is directly connected in any type of drive system including an AC motor. The DC input to the inverter comes from some kind of rectification apparatus taking its input from in the AC line.

Today, knowing how the function of the device will tell you what term can properly describes it best rather than making use of the word while not knowing what it is and how to use them properly. In this way, you can claim respect within the community and other particular party you are involved with.
